On September 1st 2013, our lives changed forever.
That was the day Aaron, our sixteen year old son, brother and friend died tragically in a car accident in Brockville, Ontario.
Our lives were shattered and we had nowhere to turn except to each other and our community.
In the midst of this, Aaron’s friends and family got together and decided to have a music festival in his honour, as Aaron was a drummer and music was a large part in his family as a whole.
This was the start of the first DIFA summer music festival. DIFA stands for “Do It for Aaron.”
It helped us to heal as well as helped a community heal. It also was responsible for raising $10,300 each for 3 local high schools to fund programming.
We have had 2 more festivals since then; with the entertainment growing as the event itself becomes bigger.
The money raised has been donated to charities such as the children’s mental health, the police association and area food banks, among others.
We hope to continue with this, given as we have finally received our licensed charity status.
This will enable us to do more for our community as we grow, in addition to getting even higher quality entertainment.
All of the DIFA team volunteer to do this, as a way to help build our Aaron’s legacy.
Money raised at these festivals goes towards financing the event, with the remainder going straight to children’s programs in our community.
We have had some amazing bands and entertainment come through our gates and with your help and support we hope to bring back Brockville’s River Festival—that has been defunct for far too long.
We are a small town festival with a big city bang. We like to keep our prices down to enable anyone, regardless of financial circumstances, the ability to attend our event. We also gladly assist anyone that cannot afford this festival, enabling everyone in the community to celebrate.
This is our vision and this is our mission. We, with your support, hope to build an annual event that will be enjoyed by all for many years to come.
